Porcelain Veneers
Hellertown, PA

When you smile, your teeth become quite prominent. How your teeth look can play a significant role in the quality of your smile, and your confidence. Even the smallest flaws in your teeth can impact its appearance. At DeWire Dental, we can help to improve the quality of your smile and boost your confidence, with veneers.

What are Veneers?

Even the smallest flaws in your teeth can have a major impact on the overall quality of your smile. Minor flaws that can impact your smile include:
•  Small chips and cracks in your tooth enamel.
•  Spaces between your teeth.
•  Minor overlapping.
•  Disproportionately small teeth.
•  Oddly shaped teeth.
•  Discoloration that cannot be whitened.

Veneer Materials

Veneers are made from one of two materials, composite resin or porcelain. Porcelain is generally the preferred material. While both materials are tooth-colored, porcelain provides a much more realistic appearance. In addition to matching the color of your teeth, it also reflects light like your natural tooth enamel. Porcelain is stronger than composite and has a longer expected lifespan. Where composite resin is rated to last 5 to 7 years, porcelain can last 15 years or more with proper care.

Porcelain is also stain-resistant. Composite resin is porous, can stain when exposed to certain types of foods, beverages, and tobacco products. Unlike your natural teeth though, composite veneers cannot be whitened. If they stain, they need to be changed. Porcelain, on the other hand, can resist stains.

Why Veneers?

There are many reasons to consider veneers. Benefits of this treatment include:
•  Blending in with the rest of your natural teeth.
•  Improving the appearance of your teeth. This helps to improve the overall quality of your smile.
•  With your smile quality improved, your confidence will increase, and others will take notice.
•  Biocompatible. The materials used for veneers are biocompatible. This means that they will not irritate your gums. Your gums will sit around them naturally, just like they sit around your teeth.
•  Strong. Veneers, particularly porcelain, can withstand most normal daily wear and tear. They are also stronger than dental bonding.
•  Minimally invasive. Veneers require the removal of only a small amount of tooth enamel. They are less invasive, and less expensive, than crowns.

The Process for Getting Veneers

Getting veneers typically requires two separate appointments. At your first appointment, we first prepare the teeth. This process, done under a local anesthetic, involves removing just a thin layer of enamel from the front surfaces of the affected teeth.

Removing the enamel is done to ensure that your veneers fit naturally in with the rest of your smile and do not feel bulky or unnatural. After preparing the teeth, an impression is taken of your mouth. This impression is sent to our dental lab, where it is used to design and create your custom veneers. At your second appointment, your veneers are checked for fit, bite, and a natural appearance. If everything looks good, they are bonded to the teeth with a special dental cement.

With veneers, we can improve the appearance of teeth affected by minor flaws, boosting the quality of your smile as well as your confidence. Call DeWire Dental at (610) 838-6188 today to schedule your consultation and find out if veneers are right for you.
